Why Choose Merino? Merino is a super-fine and non-irritant wool that’s incredibly lightweight and warm. Unlike man made fibres, our woven merino ‘breathes’, and is naturally resistant to flame, dirt and creasing.
Merino wool is simply an amazing fibre - The yarn for Heirloom's range is an exceptional grade of quality anti-pill 100% Merino, specifically sourced from Italy due to its special properties.
It feels silky and soft- Being the most luxurious of wool yarns, it is beautiful to handle and touch. You may think wool is scratchy, but this couldn't be further from the truth for Merino. Merino is the finest of all wools and is so soft and lightweight it is often used for clothes that are worn next to skin.
Keeps baby exceptionally warm - Merino wool is finely crimped and soft and has an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio. Unlike cotton, wool retains warmth, helping babies avoid getting cold, particularly when very young, or outside.
Regulates body temperature - The incredibly fine fibres 'breathe' and their natural properties prevent the build-up of uncomfortable humidity, keeping sheep warm in winter and cool in summer. It's these properties that make it a particularly useful material for babies who can have problems regulating their body temperature, they stay warm - but don't overheat.
Gentle on delicate skin - Merino is a super-fine and non-irritant wool that’s incredibly lightweight and warm, and an ideal textile to have against baby's delicate skin. Merino contains lanolin, which has antibacterial properties too.
Naturally resistant to dirt and flame, and hardwearing - Merino wool is naturally resistant to flame, dirt and creasing, resulting in our blankets and shawls maintaining their shape and appearance amazingly well with being loved and well-used from being out and about with baby.
